Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
